the one about the one layer card...

I am such a huge fan of Kristina Werner and on her recent MACM post, she challenged her blog readers to make a one layer card...no layers of paper, fancy ribbons, flowers, or buttons. I wasn't sure I could do that...I love my flowers and buttons!! But I challenged myself and went for it...and I ended up making three cards. It was great timing - I needed two anniversary cards (one for my sister and brother-in-law who are celebrating their fifth anniversary TODAY and another for my mom and dad who will be celebrating their 37th anniversary next Wednesday...yeah I am totally late in getting the card to my sister and brother-in-law) and a birthday card for my great Aunt who just turned 93. I figured that since I would need to send these cards out it would be a great time to make the one layer cards. So here's what I came up with...
I used my new "A Little Argyle" stamp set on this one and created a mask with my new mat stack die 1 die. Then I outlined the mask with my trusty white gel pen. The sentiment is from Damask Designs and the flourish under it is from Vintage Labels (all stamp sets from Papertrey Ink). Love how this turned out and I am addicted to the argyle stamp set...it has such versatility!!

Then I made this too. I found this really great foam stamp by Donna Downey for Prima at my LSS that I loved, so I inked it up with some Ranger paint, stamped it on My Mind's Eye grid paper cut to size, and that was that. Stamp the sentiment in the bottom corner and call it a day! So easy and I am liking the simplicity of it!

Last but not least...the birthday card. Broke out my Life stamp set and Signature Greetings for the senitment. Loving the Life set too...I have a sneeky suspicion that I'll be using that and the argyle set a lot!! I am really loving how this one turned out and of the three one layer cards I made, I think this is my favorite.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

  1. Wonderful cards! I really like the argyle one. Great idea to mask with the mat stack die. The white outline really makes it pop.

  4. OMG I love LOVE LOVE that argyle card!!!! How long did it take you to get the whole pattern ?? that is just amazing. I am guessing you did the dotted line and then alternated the blue and green. I have not gone down this road yet ....... my youngest is always pulling on me while I am stamping ...... if I tried this I would be naked by the time I was finished LOL,,,,,,, might have to try that when she goes to bed tonight you have inspired me!!!
